Bird dog training is a development process. It’s important to get a dog off to a good start as a pup. This happens by getting the young dog introduced to birds and the gun. Dependent upon the dog they need to learn to handle. They should be pointing but not necessarily steady although once in a while even a one year old puppy needs some real pressure. Then the 1-2 year old dogs should be started on breaking process and at least steadied up. Again, there are exceptions with the individual dog. At 3 years old it is time to really have the dog broke and backing. When dogs are kept sharp and the owners are following through making corrections as needed by the time the dog is 4 he will begin to become a reliably broke bird finder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tom works those three age groups (pups, 1-2 year olds, and 3+) at his training grounds on his training birds. Also at the same grounds is his Summer Bird Camp program that coincides with the summer vacation months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the fall on through spring Tom also runs a wild bird program for 1-2 year olds and older dogs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

All dogs must be up to date on the following vaccinations: Rabies, Distemper and Parvo.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

A copy of the vaccination record from a certified veterinarian is required.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wild Bird Program<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Spring and fall training on Ruffed Grouse and Woodcock.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Spring snow melt until nesting begins and later in the year in mid-September until mid-November. Contact Tom for pricing and additional information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Summer Bird Camp – Board and Birds<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The perfect place for your bird dog while you are on vacation this summer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

June, July and August – $24\/day, 4 day minimum<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Knob Mountain’s Summer Bird Camp is the perfect place for your bird dog while you are on vacation this summer. Instead of boarding your dog in a local kennel drop your dog off here at the kennel and give he or she a good time at bird camp.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
